Synopsis: Phoonk 2 is the latest release in the genre of so called horror films from the bag of Ram Gopal Varma’s production company. In fact one wonders whether Varma seems to have made some nexus with supernatural forces with his futile effort of making horror films one after the other. Phoonk 2 is the sequel of its first part and every effort has been made to make it scarier. However, with all respect to Varma and his director, the film does not seem to scare anyone. Rather than being frightened, the audience perhaps has a feeling of amusement towards the movie’s end.

Review: When you enter the hall to watch Phoonk 2, you may have an uncanny feeling but within a few minutes of the movie, it vanishes. Rather than a plot or some really well made frightening scenes; all that you see are some technical or digitally enhanced sequences with no resemblance to the real world at all. The film also seems to start in an abrupt manner and then goes on dragging itself meaninglessly to end abruptly again. Nevertheless, the director leaves no stones unturned to make you shiver. Black magic, evil forces, blood, gory spirit: you have almost everything but alas all these do not really go well with the audience.

Milind Gadagkar had written the story of the first part and now he takes a step forward and puts on the director’s cap as well. As a novice, he does not put a good show and seems to get confused in the plot construction totally.  Nevertheless, we hope that in the passage of time, his directorial maturity increases.

Madhu, who had died in the prequel, now comes back as an evil spirit in this part to take revenge and casts a spell on Rajiv and Arti’s daughter Raksha. The film begins in the same old way where Rajiv (Sudeep), Aarti (Amruta Khanvilkar) and their children shift to a new home which is haunted. Located amidst dense wilderness, the bungalow seems to be a perfect hang out for evil forces and ghosts.

Trouble starts when Raksha gets a doll in the forest and brings it home. Stranger incidents start taking place: the doll moves its head, the jhoola swings without air and mysterious footsteps are heard. The evil spirit has already entered Aarti’s body and is hungry for revenge. Rajiv, who had been taking all these not too seriously now gets worried and calls a tantrik. In the next half we see a hide and seek game between the spirit and tantrik and suddenly the film ends. A hint of the third sequel I guess.

Acting wise, Sudeep does a good job in the role of a helpless father and husband. On the other hand, Amruta does justice to her role too. The children do their bit in small roles. Ashwini Kalsekar as the spirit also puts up a more or less commendable performance.

The editing and camera work could have been better. They fail to instill that spine chilling effect and seem let down at most times. Just like comedy, horror too has its own elements and sadly the director fails to utilize them properly.

To sum it, Phoonk 2 is not the type of movie that you should watch to get shivers down your spine. It has all elements to be just a time pass, minus any horror.

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 is Highly awaited prequel towards the particularly rewarding surprise horror hit ‘PARANORMAL ACTIVITY’, coming from past year. I am not really a large lover in the original film. I admire it’s low budget creativeness and blockbuster success but to myself it’s not this scary and full of fairly cheap tricks and attention-grabber thrills. I believed the lead persona Katie, performed by Katie Featherston, has been extremely irritating and I did not think either the girl or her sweetheart Micah (played by Micah Sloat) have been really likable or relate-able and also I didn’t genuinely care just what happened to these people. This kind of prequel has all of your very same flaws and is actually just far more with the same thing. It adds nothing new towards the sequence until the climax, which is the only good element of your whole motion picture.

Honestly, I’am voiceless. The Shawshank Redemption is fabulous. I’am quite young movie fan, as a matter of fact, this film is realised whenI was very young, and thence I am more used to movies with unbelievable special effects, edge-of-your-seat action, et cetera. This movie has no of that, and even, it appeals so closely . Way Frank Darabont uses the narration of Red to drive on the tale, the excellent the film music used (note the mouth harp used just earlier Red receiving the letter at the end). The whole film, from start to end, from actions to sound, is a lighthouse of desire, judgement, and repurchase. The cast is ideal, Morgan Freeman(Red) really brings about a refreshing feel to the tale, and that is exactly what the movie is, what a movie should be. Really recommended for each and everyone.
