Idiots: Listen to your Heart!
Looking forward to Rajkumar Hirani’s 2009 presentation did not come as a disappointment. Instead, 3 Idiots brought with it a new mantra to the market, “All is Well”. Based on Chetan Bhagat’s ‘Five Point Someone’, the movie worked magic on the audience as had the “jadu ki jhappi” and “Gandhigiri” done, post the release of the Munnabhai series. Rajkumar Hirani has gone far into the minds of the youth and worked his magic on the parents.
The story revolves around an engineering college which Viru Shahastrabuddhe, aka Virus heads. Amongst other students, Rancho (Aamir Khan), Farhan (Madhavan) and Raju (Sharman Joshi) are best friends. Rancho is of a revolutionary mind, and does not believe that mugging up of books can lead to acquiring knowledge; and he goes about preaching these thoughts amongst his friends. The story spins around the life of these friends and Virus, and how each of them achieved their dreams.
Beautifully crafted, the story has all the emotions that a movie can expect to have. Although termed comedy, 3 Idiots has a hint of drama, tragedy and a fast paced approach to it. Along with the well spun story line, Shantanu Moitra’s music complimented the whole effect. Except for one instance, the placement of songs was ideal. Choreographer Bosco Martis, Caesar Gonsalves, Avit Dias have done a wonderful job in creating the dance moves.
A round of applause must be given to the dialogue writers Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi for coming up with the brilliant piece delivered by Silencer (Omi Vaidya). Who would have thought that minor changes made to a script can produce such hilarious results? Apart from the storyline, the one other focus that the audience has is on the dialogues. The dialogues in this movie have inspired and brought out many buried emotions to the surface amongst the masses. Even by just listening to the dialogues you can go into a fit of laughter, dive into the sea of emotions, or climb the heights of passion.
The movie has all positive points in it, and poses certain questions to probably all the caretakers of such institutions. For example, are the teachers in well known institutes so rigid that there is no scope for anything new? Next, how long or how many lives will it take to realize that the system is buckling under the feet? These questions remain unanswered, and probably will be so for a long time to come. Students can only hope for the best during this time, and till then keep watching such well made movies.
